Shahrukh Khowaja, LL.B, LL.M – Articling Student
Shahrukh Khowaja initiated her career as a finance professional and transitioned into becoming a tax lawyer. Her legal practice in Pakistan began with working as an associate at a renowned tax law firm where she assisted the senior partner in litigating complex customs and taxation matters at the Supreme Court of Pakistan. She also represented clients on different phases of tax disputes such as; at hearings before the adjudicating commissioner, the customs tribunal and the Division Court of Sindh, Pakistan. Her passion for advocacy helped her in successfully obtaining interim relief for clients on several occasions.
Shahrukh has also worked as a legal counsel for a renewable energy corporation, where she provided legal advice to the Chief Executive Officer regarding structuring ideas for complex multi-million-dollar transactions, including new acquisitions and expansion of the business. She has acquired the ability to comprehend technical and complex business transactions with ease and assist clients by providing insightful and smart solutions to complicated problems.
After completing Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School and National Committee of Accreditation examinations Shahrukh joined Thang Tax law as an articling student. She has assisted Simon Thang in advising a range of clients including multi-nationals, small and mid-sized businesses and individuals. She has been exclusively working on sales tax (GST/HST/PST) issues and has developed a thorough understanding of the sales tax rules in Canada.
Education: Shahrukh received an accountancy certification from Association of Certified Chartered Accountants, a Bachelor of Laws from University of London and a Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School.
